Summer Fun 2011

We've had a great July and August here at the Taylor home.

The girls and I tagged along with Brian for a work committment he had in Destin, Florida for a few days. Charleigh LOVED the beach, as this was the first trip she's made to the beach at an age that she can remember the experience and talk about it weeks later. It was Reagan's first trip to the beach, and it was so much fun seeing her chubby toes in the sand.

Daddy and his girls...Charleigh LOVED running up and down the boardwalk!
Reagan loved the wind in her hair! Who doesn't when it's the ocean's breeze?!?
Sister Love
Sweet toes in the sand!
Reagan's watching her big sister explore on the beach.
What does a 2 year old think about at the beach?

We've spent some time at our neighborhood pool and a fountain at a neighboring town. Charleigh has started to get into running through the fountains and splashing. She's swimming (in her vest) all over the pool and loves to "jump in by me self".

We've also joined a local children's museum, INK. It's a really neat experience for kids, with little store fronts along a "road" through the middle of the building. It's designed so that kids can pretend to do all the things they experience in the real world. Charleigh particularly enjoys the grocery store and veterinary clinic.

The puppy dog needed some medicine. Notice she's sitting on the bottom of the exam table. :)

We've had some fun play dates this summer, too. Charleigh and Audrey made some jello pudding popsicles during one of her visits to play at our house. They enjoyed eating them at Charleigh's "picnic table".

Charleigh has really gotten into dressing up recently. One afternoon after her nap, she threw on a lei, sun hat, and oven mitt...such a funny ensemble! She also likes to wear any grown up shoes she can find. She can even get her toes in a pair of me or Brian's flip flops perfectly, and the more bling a pair of shoes has the better...thanks to Grandma for owning lots of shoes with pizazz!

Reagan's been eating solids for a few months now, but just recently I started giving her food that I've processed. The first attempt at corn was quite comical! You see, the skin of the corn kernels doesn't puree very well, and at the end of Reagan's feeding, she proceeded to rub her fist in her mouth and ALL OVER her face; therefore, covering her face in tons of corn skin. Charleigh and I were laughing so hard at Reagan, and the harder we laughed, the more she rubbed her face! It made for some very cute pictures, which made up for the mess I had to clean up! Thank goodness it's bathtime immediately following dinner at our house! By the looks of this picture, you wouldn't think she ate much, but she did eat an impressive amount.

If that doesn't make you smile, I don't know what will!

Charleigh continues to be an amazing big sister. She loves Reagan tremendously, and she always makes sure Reagan is happy. She'll tell Reagan, "No, Reagan, no! Don't be sad!" Reagan gets many songs sung to her and many kisses and hugs throughout the day.

Reagan is now 6 1/2 months old. She's a very happy baby, but she does have a temper on her. When she's frustrated, tired, or just feels like we're not doing what she's wanting for her, she blows raspberries over and over again. So, that, in addition to the drewling associated with some teething (I presume teething, although none have popped through yet), makes for some REALLY soggy clothing! Reagan has been sitting up independently now for two weeks. She LOVES to dig in a basket of toys and lay them all around her. She's content doing that for about 15 minutes on her own. Since she's been sitting, she's now figured out how to get on all fours and rock back and forth. Reagan is ALWAYS on the move and soon it's going to get even busier as crawling is on the horizon! She also likes to play in her exersaucer and jump in the doorway jumper. A funny thing she does that people always comment on are her ankles always in motion. She rolls her ankles around and around with her legs stretched out straight. Sometimes when she gets really excited, she'll straighten out her arms and legs, rolling her wrists and ankles, and that's usually accompanied by a really cute smile. She's a sweet little baby, grabbing our faces with an open-mouthed kiss!

Charleigh is 2 years and 3 months old. She's still a fun-loving, sensitive, silly girl. We've been potty training for about a week. I originally thought I'd wait until closer to Christmas, making her 2 1/2, but once Reagan started sitting independently, I thought I'd give it a good attempt because I knew I could plop Reagan down and she wouldn't go anywhere. The first few days were rough, I think more for me than her, but here at the end of this first week of training, she's telling me when she needs to go and she goes within seconds of sitting down! That's a big deal, as it was taking a 10-15 minute trip to the potty, reading book after book before any action would happen. She loves her big girl panties and is SO proud of herself when she goes on the potty! Charleigh's first day of school (Mother's Morning Out) was today. She got to meet her teacher and see her classroom last week. She was so excited to get to use her school bag today and take her lunchbox with her. I was worried that she may tear up when I first dropped her off, as that's been the norm at the church nursery ("Sunday School" as we've been calling it to prepare for regular school). Quite the contrary! When welcomed by her teacher, she walked right into the classroom and never looked back! Not a single tear! As is her character, she walked over to the kitchen and stood back and quietly observed a little girl before getting in the mix. When I picked her up, as we held hands and walked down the hallway out of the building, she looked up at me and exclaimed, "That was real real fun, Mommy!" Can't believe what a big girl she has become, and I couldn't be more proud!

I say it all the time, but time really is flying! I am enjoying being home with Charleigh and Reagan and trying to soak up all these precious moments with our precious girls!

Taylor Girls' Milestones

We've had many milestones here at the Taylor house in the past two months. Both girls had their first trip to Zoo Atlanta in May; Reagan is now 4 months old, rolling over, and has begun eating solids (rice cereal); and we recently celebrated Charleigh's 2nd birthday.

Charleigh is definitely a 2 year old. Her vocabulary never ceases to amaze us, so much so that we can't keep up with the words she knows. Our favorite thing she is saying right now is "Get me Buzz ben did (Buzz Lightyear Bandaid). Make me boo boo feel all betta now." She also has a funny misconception that 2 batteries will fix anything, like torn pages in a book. She won't pose for a picture...ever. She loves her books more than ever, and she will "read" them in her room independently for half an hour, easily. She is very feisty and has her moments of disobedience and frustration, all the while a perfect joy to be around (I know...I'm slightly biased!).

Reagan is now 4 months old. She's been rolling over from her back to her belly for a few weeks now. She's not quite going from belly to back, but I know it won't take long. She's a very strong little girl, supporting her body weight on her legs for quite a long time (10-15 minutes), fully controlling her head, and sitting in her Bumbo seat for a long time, as well (15+ mintues). Reagan is so interested in Charleigh! In a strong crying fit, she'll calm down immediately when Charleigh comes up to talk to her and give her a kiss. Reagan doesn't want to miss a beat, very attentive to her surroundings, always wanting to know where Mommy, Daddy, and Charleigh are in the room. She's also holding and reaching up for toys. Reagan loves to chew on her hands, pull up her dresses to chew, and suck her thumb. She has the sweetest giggle and is very ticklish.
Charleigh with her buddy, Bennett, watching the pink flamingoes at the zoo. Notice, Baby Doll had her first trip to the zoo, too.

Reagan enjoyed her visit at the zoo.

Charleigh and Bennett had fun playing in the water fountain...
didn't need to make a trip to the zoo for that, Kid!

Charleigh loved the pandas. She was really into a book titled "Zen Shorts" with a panda character named Stillwater at the time we visited the zoo, so she kept calling the pandas "Stillwater".

Charleigh enjoyed the petting zoo. Not a goat went un-pet by the time we left! :)

We had a small party at our house for Charleigh's 2nd birthday party. She's really into cupcakes and ice cream cones, so I made cupcakes in ice cream cones for dessert. Charleigh loved them!

Charleigh got a swing set for her birthday. She loves having tea parties in the playhouse on the bottom, waving "hi" from the overlook on top, and swinging "big" (high). Many memories will be made in our backyard for years to come!

Eating a cupcake is serious business, don't you know?

Charleigh and Daddy enjoy a swing together at her party.

The kids had fun running through sprinklers, too.

Reagan was taking in all the action.

Another milestone...Charleigh's first nail painting session. She sat so still and loves color on her nails.

Just a random picture of the girls. Charleigh LOVES Reagan!

Family picture at the Taylors

Another milestone for Charleigh...she's jumping into the pool (with Mimi)...

goes underwater and blows bubbles...

and comes up smiling. She's a little fish, and I'm so glad that she loves the water so much!

A recent visit to Grandma and Poppy's house

"Look what I can do. I've got a hold of a fish, everybody!"

Charleigh "singing" her "Wheels on the Bus" book

Random picture of Charleigh...couldn't get a smile

Reagan's first solid feeding. She loves rice cereal and gets excited when she sees a spoon coming to her mouth. Just like her big sister...loves to eat!

Another attempt at a picture of the girls...Charleigh wouldn't look up at the camera.
Stubborn little girl! :)

This is the look I got when I asked for one good picture...not what I had in mind, Sweet Pea!

Such a goof ball!

Spring and Easter 2011

Well, as usual, time is flying by and I'm not keeping up with the blog. I think the more children you have, time seems to go by even faster! We've been doing really well and have gotten into good routine around here. Reagan has become very good at "napping-on-the-go", so we just have to pray that this will continue! :) It's been nice because Charleigh and I have still been able to get out and about. I have been able to get Charleigh and Reagan down at the same time for a good afternoon nap, which is how I've kept some sort of sanity! :) Reagan has been smiling and coo-ing for several weeks now, and for about a week and a half she's been initiating smiles and talking "sessions", rather than just smiling and talking in response to Brian and me. I also witnessed Reagan smile at Charleigh for the first time a few days ago and that made Charleigh's day!

Not only has Reagan adjusted really well, Charleigh has, too. To say she's a good big sister is an understatement. She LOVES "Baby Bah-bak" (Baby Reagan) and is always so affectionate with her. Charleigh comments on whether or not Reagan is happy or sad, attempts to give Reagan her pacifier when she's sad, and shares even her favorite toys with Reagan. As I've mentioned in previous posts, Charleigh is a very happy little girl. She's growing up so fast...it's hard to believe we'll be celebrating her 2nd birthday in a little over a month! She's learning new words everyday, and it's amazing to watch her learn to communicate better and better each day. Brian and I are always amazed at how much she understands, repeats, and tells us. Charleigh loves her baby dolls, and recently Grandma (Markle) took her to get an outfit for "Baby Doll" (that's baby doll's name...creative, huh?!?), and then a few more outfits were acquired from Great Aunt Becky and Aunt Meg. One of Brian's and my favorite things that Charleigh is saying right now is "Baby Doll's monk jam-jams on" (Baby Doll's monkey pajamas on). So precious! Another one of our favorite words she says is vitamin, coming out sounding like "dum dum". We've heard her say it for weeks now, but the other morning Brian just died laughing and said, "We've gotta get this stuff on video!" Charleigh keeps us laughing!
One morning Charleigh wanted to hold Reagan and then she proceeded to share "Baby Doll" with her...that's a BIG deal...noone can take "Baby Doll" from Charleigh! Reagan, you are VERY loved!

Reagan getting some tummy time...love Charleigh in the background in focus

We've started to ask Charleigh to smile for the camera, and this is the silly face we get! Hysterical! Anyone know a good orthodontist?

Another silly picture

Reagan's first smile on camera...love those chubby cheeks!

Love this picture!

It was just the girls and me for Easter weekend. We've all been battling a terrible cold and cough, and Brian beat it in time to go to Lexington to visit with the Taylor's and meet Aunt Kari and Uncle Dale's new little girl, Caitlin. We spent Easter morning at home going through the baskets that the Easter Bunny left the girls and then went to Aunt Meg and Uncle Jeff's house for brunch and an egg hunt. Charleigh had so much fun running around, picking up eggs, and putting them in her basket. I laughed several times watching her run past several eggs in plain sight just to get to an egg that she had her eye on. Brian got home in time to play with us outside after naptime, and we had a nice family meal together! Perfect weekend!

The Easter Bunny visited the girls

Charleigh sporting her new princess necklace with Belle (from Beauty and the Beast) on it and "putting on" her chapstick

Gonna be best friends!

Love those cheeks!

After pulling out all of the Easter Bunny goodies, Charleigh decided to take Buzz (Lightyear) for a ride in the basket, along with EVERYTHING else that could possibly fit!

I asked Charleigh to smile for the camera and this is what I got. So, I proceeded to show her this picture on the camera (gotta love digital cameras!) and told her she looked sad. So, I asked her to show me her happy face, and I got...

a very silly little girl! :)

Carrying Reagan's AND her basket

"He go, Baby Bah-bak!" (Here you go, Baby Reagan!)

Looks like Reagan's happy to have her basket, huh?!?

On the hunt for eggs

She found this green one in the tree, ...

reached up for it, ...

and it fell. She put it in her basket and turned back to the SAME tree ...

What? No more? Does she think eggs grow on trees?!? :)

This was my favorite from the day...she had dropped this egg on the ground before it made it in the basket, and all of the jelly beans fell out. Charleigh carefully put each jelly bean back in the egg one-by-one and closed the egg before placing it carefully in her basket! So sweet!

The HAPPIEST little girl in the world!

Sweet Reagan

The Taylor Girls

We hope you all had a wonderful Easter!
